The good dinosaur đánh giá

Pixar’s lachạy thử animation feature, “The Good Dinosaur,” starts with a good cosmic joke. An asteroid gets bumped off its path & doesn’t hit the Earth, the dinosaurs don’t go extinct and evolution isn’t Darwinian but egalitarian—dinos nội dung the planet with human upstarts, except that the big guys are smarter than we are. As Pixar productions go, this one isn’t a groundbreaker, but it’s heartfelt và endearing, as well as visually splendiferous, and kids will love it for sure. ( Peter Sohn directed from a screenplay by Meg LeFauve.) The best way for adults khổng lồ enjoy the film is khổng lồ follow the advice given by a gruff T-rex named Butch lớn the hero, Arlo, a timid young Apatosaurus. When Arlo seeks reassurance about the dangers that await him on his journey, Butch says, “Don’t overthink it.” (The voice cast includes Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormvà, Raymond Ochoa & Sam Elliott. )

Arlo’s journey is a familiar one—an all-too-familiar one, if you’re after groundbreakers & nothing else. It’s about the sweetness of childhood shattered by sudden loss, overcoming fear through a struggle lớn survive sầu, and the tìm kiếm for what remains of a loving family.

The family that Arlo is hatched into—as a very little guy peering up from a plus-size shell—works a thriving farm in the Old West, which is lớn say the extremely old West that corresponds khổng lồ geological knowledge of how the West may have sầu looked when dinosaurs roamed the lvà. The movie is framed as a traditional western, with certain modifications. Arlo’s mother và father plow the soil with their noses, irrigate their crops with their mouths. A cattle drive sầu involves proto-bisons. A campfire tale told boastfully by Butch, the T-rex, turns on drowning a croc in its own blood. (Given Butch’s dentition, the tale may not be a croông xã.)

Once Arlo loses the security of his family & finds himself an unfathomable distance from trang chủ, the hero’s journey also becomes one of a boy & his dog, although the boy in this case is a green dino và the dog he meets along the way is a scruffy boy he decides khổng lồ name Spot (rather than Mowgli, who comes 60 million years later). A quadruped sniffer và grunter rather than a biped speaker, Spot has lots to lớn learn from articulate Arlo, but the reverse is true too—the kid is human, after all—so the relationship deepens as rivalry gives way khổng lồ camaraderie in the face of storms, rising rivers & squadrons of predatory pterodactyls.

The buddies’ adventures are dramatized delightfully, but a case could be made for the movie’s real subject being scenery, và, particularly, water. (Before saying more about this, I should note that I made a point of attending a 3D screening, but unspecified technical problems turned it into lớn a 2 chiều screening. On the strength of what I saw, I’d bet the 3 chiều version is worth the surcharge.) Water has long been a challenge for animators khổng lồ depict convincingly, but the water here—rushing, gushing, roiling, gloriously raging—has the emotional force of a major character. As for the landscapes, Pixar’s computers, in the service of art, have sầu rendered splendor in the grasslands and majesty in the mountains. If such tools had been present at the Creation, the whole thing might have been done in seconds instead of days.
